MTB Clubs

There is one MTB club of note in Bristol but as you can expect there are quite a few clubs over the Severn Bridge, the gate way to MTB heaven.

If you can't find any one who wants to go across the bridge for a day's ride then you are more than welcome to contact any of the clubs featured here they will all welcome you along.

You could also make contact with people in the same positon as your self by using the the forum site on MTB Wales.

Bristol MTB

The main MTB club in Bristol, many of their rides revolve around Ashton Court which is a good place to improve your technical ability and build up fitness for those more demanding circuits in South Wales. The club venture out of Bristol on a regular basis not just across the bridge but also down to the Salisbury plain and trails in the Mendips.

Machen Miggly Moos

The first major Welsh club you come to if you cross the bridge, they not only ride at Cwmcarn but have excellent knowledge of the mountain trails around Machen.

Mountain Goates

The Mountain Goates are the next biggest club you can get to in a reasonable

time. Rides are organised  every weekend on Saturday. The rides start at 8:30 am from the car park in Nelson (follow the link on the left for a map) and cover most parts of the Valleys, with forays further afield to the Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains, Forest of Dean and  Mid Wales. The Forest Enterprise tracks at Cwmcarn and  Afan Argoed are often visited, and they organise trips to North Wales to sample the Coed-y-Brenin, Nant-yr-Arian and Bettws-y-Coed routes during the summer months. The summit of Snowdon was ridden last year and will be repeated again as it was such good fun...one not to be missed.

The Club attends various organised events every year, and provides support to club members thanks to the help of a Sportlot grant which has allowed the Club to purchase a set of bike tools and a pop-up gazebo to allow bike servicing in the dry, whatever the weather. If we've gone camping to the event, we have a club barbeque the evening before the race and have a good time.

The Club has also  organised longer trips to the Lake District (Tim Woodcock's Lakeland Loop) and the Sierra Nevadas in Spain . We try to offer a varied mountain biking experience that means the weekend ride is most definitely the high spot of your week.....why not come along and give it a go?

MTB Pigs Swansea

The Mtb Pigs is a Swansea based mountain bike club where the emphasis is very much on having fun. The heart of the Club is the regular Thursday night ride. They ride all year round, usually in Clyne woods or around Gower, starting at 7:15 from the car park at the bottom of the Clyne valley cycle path and finishing off in the West Cross Inn for a drink afterwards.

There is quite a mixed ability within the group so most riding abilities are catered for. Weekend and other weekday rides around Gower, Clyne, Kilvey Hill or at one of the forestry centres like Glyncorrwg, Afan Argoed or Brechfa, are often organised through the forum. Some of the club members ride & race Downhill. DH sessions, uplift days etc. are also organised through the Forum.

They usually get away further a field at some point during the year for weekends and weeks away in Britain & the Alps. They always welcome new riders, check the mtbpigs forum for details of rides or just show up on a Thursday with a bike (and some lights in the winter).

Spambiking MTB

Back on this side of the bridge you should be able to get a good XT ride with Slambiking MTB, they are responsible for the organisation of the Whyte Solstice Challenge in June, The Challenger 12 Set2Rise (overnight enduro), the September Lavington Blast and an Off-Road Winter Event, The SPAM Winter Challenge in January. They also enjoy regular club rides in and around the Salisbury Plain area as well as further a field, to which all our members are welcome. They attempt to offer different levels of riding within our ride calendar to encourage all abilities.
