There are three main road clubs that service Bristol, Bristol South, Severn Road Club and the Bristol section of the CTC
Severn Road Club
 |
The Severn Road Club was founded in 1932. The current membership is drawn largely from the northern part of Bristol and South Gloucestershire but they welcome members from all over the south west and beyond. The club is primarely race orientated it promotes a number of events each year in time trial, road racing, track, and cyclo-cross disciplines. A popular promotion is their summer evening 10 mile series running from April to August each year. This is a good opportunity for anyone interested in having a go at racing for the first time, or for those who just want to see what its all about. |
Bristol South
 |
Members of South Bristol CC |
The Club was formed in April 1893, by a few enthusiastic cyclists who, having formed a social alliance, were inspired to form themselves into a cycling club. A meeting was convened at Heaven's Coffee Tavern, Hill Avenue, Bedminister. It was at first suggested to name the club W.D.& H.O. Wills Cycling Club. However, amongst the original members, there were friends who were not employed by the firm, therefore, perhaps with a thought of the days to come, it was decided that the Club be known as the Bristol South Cycling Club.Today they are a semi race come touring club.
Bristol CTC
CTC is the UK and Ireland’s largest and longest established national cycling membership organisation. It was founded in 1878 as the Bicycle Touring Club, subsequently becoming the Cyclists' Touring Club. |
 |
In 2003 CTC celebrated 125 years of working for travelling, recreational and utility cycle users. They were the forerunners of the world wide network of cycling, motoring and tourism organisations, many of whom based their services on CTC’s. The organisation has its origins in the early days of cycling when the bicycle opened up new horizons for independent travel.CTC set out to identify suitable hostelries for its members and include them in members’ guides and handbooks.Occasionally you will spot a round plaque on the wall of older hotels showing the CTC emblem of a winged wheel, indicating a long history of welcoming cyclists. |
The Bristol section is based at Redland Park Church and is open to every one.
|
Abertillery Wheelers
The club was founded in 1945 with a present membership of fifty. It is now the only cycling club left in Blaenau Gwent, from six that have been formed since World War Two. It is committed to providing the sport at the lowest possible cost, and to making membership available to anyone who wishes to take part in the competitive or leisure sections of the sport. A welcome addition has been a few Tri-athletes, who have used club cycling to improve their riding ability. The club promote 34 events for members, as well as open events each year. The club has been kept on a solid footing through its long serving officers. |
