There are numerous sites where you can obtain advice on routes, an excellent site is Sustrans.

Instead of suggesting routes we have decided to suggest places to go, you can then use the Sustrans site or one of the many mapping sites to plan your route.

Chepstow

Many cyclists bye pass Chepstow looking to gain road miles on the quiet roads that head out towards Abergavenny, Monmouth, Usk and many more places. If you are looking for a short ride to a place of interest then Chepstow could be the place for you. Packed full of history, plenty of places to eat and drink and a fine castle
The ruins of Chepstow Castle have a spectacular setting on cliffs over the River Wye. This powerful defensive position can best be seen from several points on the English side of the river. Building commenced the year after the Battle of Hastings in 1067, in stone - an indication of the castle's importance - as most other Norman fortresses of this time were of Motte and Bailey form and constructed from wood.

The climb from Chepstow race course and the return climb makes this route slightly harder than 'Easy'. Well worth it just to see the old Abbey. Refreshments are available from several venues
Tintern Abbey was founded for Cistercian monks in 1131 and the present remains date from the late 13th century. The richest abbey in Wales would have begun to decay soon after 1536, by which time king Henry VIII had decided to appropriate the wealth of the religious houses. Many of the abbeys soon became roofless as their lead was quickly plundered and the fact that the ruins still stand is testament to the great skills of the medieval designers and craftsmen
