If you have ever cycled at night away from the glare of city lights have you ever noticed how many stars are up there. Having ridden with the 'Night Club' on a clear but frosty night over at Cwmcarn I could not help but notice the stars. I think I recognised one or two star systems, The Plough being one of them. I decided to find out more and in doing so came across a web site produced by Lee Harris of Bristol. The Sky Shed - It is very informative and easy to navigate. If you need specific information he is only to pleased to pass on his knowledge.
The Constellation of Ursa Major The stars of the Plough, form noe of the most recognised star patterns in the sky. It forms part of the constellation known as the Great Bear. The stars Merak and Dubhe form the pointers which will lead you to the Pole Star.
The Constellation of Orion Orion will be seen in the south at around 11 - 12 pm during January. The stars that can be seen are over 1000 lights years away. |
